Tradeshow Report

(October 2009)

GlassBuild America 2009 Recap

This year’s GlassBuild (held at the Georgia World Congress Center) saw better attendance than most expected, with approximately 7,000 visitors over the course of the three-day event. The overall strategy for most companies exhibiting at the show was to focus on influencers to consumers who are remodeling their homes rather than in the market for a new home. Overall impressions were positive, and most exhibitors felt it was a worthwhile and successful show. (Press release can be found here.)

Important Takeaways:
Certain trends at GlassBuild were apparent throughout the show floor, including ease of use and maintenance for glass windows and shower enclosures and catering to smaller budgets.

  • Ease of maintenance and use – Many exhibitors showcased new products designed to be easy to use and clean.
  • Treatments and finishes – Certain coatings can cause water to shed off glass easier, while other treatments allow shower doors to be clear in some areas and opaque in others.
  • Customization – Because remodeling is more important to most people than buying new homes right now, many exhibitors offer customizable products and systems for the consumer who is looking for a home or bathroom update.
  • Design – Glass isn’t what it used to be. The options seemed endless, from colored and textured glass to recycled to glass replicas of company logos.
  • Energy efficiency – Going green is on everyone’s mind lately, and GlassBuild was no different. Many companies are making strides to manufacture environmentally friendly products in eco-conscious ways.
