A Recap of SURFACES 2009

Serving as the largest, most popular floor covering industry tradeshow, SURFACES 2009 has successfully concluded its 20th year with thousands of attendees. Held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, this year’s SURFACES three-day event began on Tuesday, February 3 and ended on Thursday, February 5th.  The show estimated approximately 35,000 retailers, distributors, architects, designers, installers, builders and manufacturers were in attendance despite the current economy. Hanley Wood Exhibitions, owner and producer of the show, was pleased with the outcome.

The show began with several notable guest speakers including Ralph Boe - president & CEO of Beaulieu of America, Tom Davis - president & CEO of Mannington, and Tom Lape - president of Mohawk. In addition to the panel of influential speakers, the event held numerous educational seminars on how to be and remain successful in today’s market. The overall atmosphere was positive and the energy was flowing throughout the exhibit halls.

The wide breadth of exhibitors showcased the latest products and tools in the industry. Some noteworthy exhibitors include:

  • Warmly Yours – showcased amazing electric floor heating systems, which are ideal for many in colder climates. The company also introduced bathroom floor warming kits.
  • Pacific Solutions – offered its “Floor Manager” software. This point of sale and accounting software helps people sell floors, great in this economy.
  • Anderson – presented several new designs for its hardwood flooring collection including engineered and solid floors. Very popular booth at the show.
  • Country Wood Flooring, Inc.- introduced both pre-finished solid and engineered flooring as well as handcrafted distressed floors including American Walnut, Bamboo, and Mable.

SURFACES 2010 will again be held in Las Vegas at the Sands Expo & Convention Center from February 2 – 4, 2010. Next year’s theme is “Not business as usual, but business at its best.” We look forward to seeing you there.
