Expansion gives Canadian contractors high-performance luxury metal roofing option
For Immediate Release: June 10, 2019
(MALVERN, Pa.) — Canadian builders and contractors can now offer their customers a superior impact-, fire- and wind-resistant metal roofing option with Matterhorn® Metal Roofing, the luxury metal roofing line from CertainTeed.
Matterhorn Metal Roofing utilizes mottling, chiseling and other techniques to replicate the look and charm of real wood shake, quarried slate and traditional clay tile roofing, in a deep-drawn steel format that is lightweight, fully recyclable and energy-efficient. It also features an anti-corrosive proprietary paint coating system and 16 cool roof-rated colors that reflect up to 66 percent of the sun’s rays.
Matterhorn’s design also makes it stronger than typical steel and features Class 4 impact resistance, Class A fire resistance and a 130-mph wind rating. Roofs built with Matterhorn have a life expectancy of more than 50 years, allowing it to have one of the strongest warranties in the industry and making it highly suitable for Canada’s typically harsh winters.
“Metal roofing has long been recognized for its innate toughness, but most consumers are not aware of the sophisticated architectural designs that modern manufacturing offers,” said Dale Walton, roofing product manager for CertainTeed. “The days when metal roofing was limited to flat vertical panels are well past us, and we are excited to offer Canadian contractors a unique state-of-the-art luxury metal roofing system that truly lets them stand out from the competition.”
Matterhorn Metal Roofing is listed on the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) Registry of Construction Product Evaluations. Walton said the durability and performance characteristics of Matterhorn allow for a great return on investment, including possible insurance discounts as well as the energy saving factors of solar-reflective cool roof colors.
“Matterhorn meets the many rigorous testing standards policy writers look for to identify building materials that help protect a building, including impact resistance, fire and wind tests,” said Walton. “Plus, you have the sustainability factors of cool roof colors, which help reduce cooling costs and full end-of-life recyclability for reduced waste, which all fit nicely with the desire for eco-friendly products.”
Matterhorn is also significantly lighter than traditional luxury roofing materials like slate or clay tile, making it a great choice for projects where structural considerations restrict heavyweight roofing.
“We are excited to bring this great product into Canada,” said Walton. “Our contractor and distributor partners in Canada have been patiently waiting for this expansion because they understand how well-received it will be by homeowners.”
CertainTeed also offers roofing companies the opportunity to participate in its education-based Metal Roofing Contractor Credential Program, which provides contractors with information and training on how to install Matterhorn to the manufacturer’s specifications, as well as tools to help promote and support their business.
